ultima akalabeth...
...was the first 3d game i ever played on my apple II in 1980. since then i'm a big fan of the ultima series by richard garriot, aka lord british. as nowadays mobile phones match the performance of the old apple II, i found it tempting to transcribe it to j2me. it's almost a 1:1 remake of the original apple game, except of some minor additions:
- most dialogues use the proprietary gui canvas of the mobile phone for better usability. they will look slightly different depending on each phone type
- you can choose minimap and godmode in settings. that's useful if you get annoyed starving to death all the time...
- in dungeons, you can hide non-solid walls (there are lots of them!) and slightly enhance the control.
production status
the current version 1.1 covers the full original game. still,
i received a lot of requests for minor bug fixes and additional
features (above all, a save game option), that are especially
important on a mobile phone. those features will be ready
towards the end of 2006. if you want to keep informed about
updates of akalabeth, just send
me a note.
credits
i made this version of akalabeth as an obeisance unto richard garriot. you might enjoy it if you love the ultima series and like a little vintage feeling on your mobile.
